Seth said the racial reckoning following the death of George Floyd in 2020 was a large part of the program’s inception. In the past, Presidio Bay had donated to various philanthropic causes, but Seth said there had always been a disconnect between the company's philanthropic giving and issues that directly impacted the industry.

That summer, Seth and Senior Marketing and Brand Strategy Manager Lindsey Fisher sat down to figure out a way to address the issue of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the real estate industry. After reaching out to various stakeholders, they quickly recognized a willingness across the industry to address the broader issue of DEI.

Presidio Bay Summer Program Aims to Aid Real Estate’s Next Generation

In the summer of 2021, Aurion Wiley Greene stood before an empty parcel of land in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. As an industrial area known for its historic shipyards, the neighborhood presented a unique opportunity for the task at hand: brainstorming a potential development, as well as its potential uses and benefits in the community.

“That just opened my mind because I grew up down the street from the area,” said Greene, one of 12 inaugural students in a scholarship program offered by development and investment firm Presidio Bay Ventures. “Never before have I got the opportunity to do something like that, especially in my city.”

“We know that films can spur local action in the community through our experience with the Windrider Bay Area Film Forum,” says Atherton resident Terri Bullock, Founder and President of the TDB Family Foundation. “But we wanted to make the linkage between the on-screen messages and taking action much more tangible. Bringing together these stories of social impact and hope, along with the non-profits addressing these issues, is essential to fomenting action and delivering programs that change lives.”

The initial events present three documentary short films, Finding Ubuntu, Barefoot Empress, and Developing Our Future, and highlight the non-profit organizations that they are partnering with to address the issues of education, equity, and opportunity that each film details.

Emceed by the charismatic Honey Mahogany, the event was a tribute to the vibrant culture, community, and diversity of San Francisco. Its purpose was twofold: to empower the community to redefine the city’s image and to raise funds for the Presidio Bay Foundation. This charitable organization provides underprivileged youth with educational and career opportunities in the commercial real estate sector. The #welovesf campaign, led by Cassidy Zerrer and Presidio Bay’s Cyrus Sanandaji, seeks to inspire people to celebrate San Francisco and reshape the city’s narrative to foster a brighter future for upcoming generations.

Presidio Bay, a San Francisco developer, is seeking applications for its summer 2024 Real Estate Development Scholarship Program, which aims to empower young adults from underrepresented communities with educational and career opportunities in commercial real estate. Last year the program awarded more than $112K in scholarships.
