“We are what our great mentors have taught us.”

― Lailah Gifty Akita

Since 2020, Presidio Bay Ventures has led the Real Estate Development and Scholarship Program to shape the future generation of real estate. Each summer, we introduce real estate development to groups of talented students from around the Bay Area through an interactive curriculum that includes hands-on experience, an introduction to the many career pathways in this industry, mentorship, professional experience, public speaking skills (and more)!

As an addition to the already existing summer curriculum, we have implemented a Presidio Bay Community Partner Mentorship x Youth Initiative which creates even more accessibility for youth from underrepresented communities through 1:1 mentorship, which we believe is a critical component of empowerment, access and success. Personal relationships are a powerful tool for learning, growing, accountability, and more directly - starting and expanding successful careers.

As esteemed friends of PBV, past and present scholarship donors, volunteers, stakeholders, and overall champions of this program; we would like to invite you to partner with us on this endeavor. You will be a part of a new generation of industry leaders taking an active approach to building an environment of diversity and equity. A mentor is not just a resource to a young professional - a mentor serves as a supportive pillar, a partner in their mentees’ future, and an advocate. Please join us as we expand the PBV Scholarship Program once again and further our cumulative impact!

 FAQs

  • Selection of mentors will be based on:

    • Availability and bandwidth to meet with mentees during the summer

    • Interest and passion in the program

  • Assignments of the mentor and mentee (student) will be determined based on:

    • What area of real estate/development the student is interested in and which stakeholder has the most expertise in that area.

    • Personality based.

    • Similar hobbies/areas of interest (outside of real estate).

    • Students/Mentees have more clarity around their goals and real estate career options/pathways.

    • Students/Mentees feel more equipped with resources available to them as their education and career progresses.

    • Students/Mentees feel a greater sense of investment from Presidio Bay Ventures and the community.

    • Mentees feel more confident in their professional network.

    • Mentors will be required to attend a “Managing Across Lines” Lunch & Learn Workshop. This workshop will serve as a resource and collaborative education opportunity for leaders.

    • At any time in the program that you have questions, concerns and/or feedback, please reach out to alexis@presidiobay.com.

    • Program Lead will also be deploying a survey specifically for the mentors towards the end of summer to ensure we’re capturing your thoughts and suggestions to incorporate into next year’s session.

    • During June and July, set aside at least 45 minutes per week to connect with your mentee - whether on a “coffee break”, “walk around the park”, and/or virtual coffee chat. Upon the first touchpoint, set the expectation that these conversations are created as a casual space for your mentee to ask questions and lean into their curiosity.

    • We highly recommend you review the content the students will be learning the week prior for discussion points.

    • Program Lead will send you a drafted curriculum of upcoming workshops and sessions that will occur during the program.

    • You are not required to attend every workshop during the summer (unless you are scheduled as an onsite speaker/presenter) - although you are more than welcome to join us for any of the sessions!

    • We ask that you attend the Final Presentation Showcase at the end of the program.
